Target Audience

This blog is aimed at Spanish speakers adults mainly. The groups will be small to encourage interaction to facilitate learning.


Introduction

Knowledge of English contributes to personal development and can open many opportunities in terms of employment, scholarships and working opportunities. These days knowledge of English is also required for taking advantage of technology, business, tourism, culture and generally a better knowledge of world affairs.


Learning Outcomes

This course aims at helping you to master the English Language in a shrt a time as possible and giving you the capability to speak, listen and understand, converse and deliver a short presentation on any chosen topic to selected audiences.


Instructor


My name is Robert Geofroy. I am a Trinidadian with many years experience in education although mainly in mathematics and sciences through secondary and tertiary education

I have always been interested in languages and have a basic knowledge of the creole as well as a working knowledge of Spanish.

Lately I've turned to teaching English for Speakers of other Languages and as a native English speaker I base my qualification on this competency.


This Blog

This blog will form an integral part of the course and will serve to post exercises and facilitate communication.  Later on, as part of the course, you shall create your own blog and use it to submit tasks which we shall all vet.

Lessons

The lesson sessions will be held in face-face mode each Sunday afternoon at 3:00 pm. The sessions will last one hour. The material for the lesons will be distributed via this blog in downloadable PDF format. The lessons will also appear as blog posts and be numbered consecutively. The blog will also provide n avenue for the posting of the links to material used in the lessons such as the YouTube videos etc.


Schedule

As the group will meet only once per week, we shall have four lessons per month.

Organisation

It is wise to open a folder on your computer called ESOL and then in this open subfolders to store various materials from the course. For instance one sub folder could be Course Materials where you would sture the Scheme of Work as we shall outline in the next paragraph. One the whole, the trick is to be organised and this minimises time you use searching for things and better spent reviewing the material and learning.


Scheme of Work

In particular, we shall be using the Scheme of Work E1 (Entry Level 1)

Download a copy for your perusal and use. Store it in tyhe ESOL materials folder on your computer.


Video Conferencing

While this course is face-face, we shall also be using video conferencing from time to time. The application we shall use is Zoom although we may also make use of Skype.
