Lesson 2 Vocabulary, Spelling and Simple Grammar

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this session, participants will be able to

  • recall about twenty simple words and their meanings
  • Be able to spell at least some of these words
  • Be able to spell their name


Lesson

Now that we have learned the alphabet, we shall learn to spell some simple words. We shall start with

  • one letter words
  • then, two letter words
  • and finally as many three letter words as we can think of

Simple sentences

A sentence is a set of words that is complete in itself. It has meaning. For instance, we can say...

The cat sat on the mat.

That is a "complicated" sentence. What does it mean?

Gramatically, a setnec consists of a noun phrase, a verb and an object phrase. Are there any two word sentences?

Exercise: Let's make as many simple sentences as we can from the words in the list.



Four Letter Words

There are many common four letter words such as

Make a list of twenty common four letter words with their meanings.

Make ten sentences from these words
