The English Alphabet

The English alphabet is made up of 26 letters (a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j, k, l, m, n, o , p, q, r, s , t, u, v, w, x , y , z)which include

  • 21 consonants: b, c, d, f, g, h, j, k, l, m, n, p, q, r, s, t ,v. w. x. y, z
  • 5 vowels: a, e, i, o, u

Phonics

Phonics give us an idea as to the sounds of the various letters and combinations of letters. It is generally agreed that there are approximately 44 sounds in English, with some variation dependent on accent and articulation. The 44 English phonemes are represented by the 26 letters of the alphabet individually and in combination.
